091003 Eaton.Wedding_0016S.S.S. [aka; Sassy Seattle Sally]

Sally Lauren is a Roanoke native but currently resides in Seattle, WA. Where she met, fell in love, and became engaged to Darik!

A while back, I THINK in a July post about my daughters wedding, I wrote a dissertation [LOL] about how my brain works, the left sided thinker that I am – LOL! You may laugh, as I often do……but it is UNCONTROLABLE! Anyway, it was a sneak preview of Sally Lauren and Darik’s wedding and into the GMW [aka; The Gray Matter Warehouse], also known as my brain.

Sally Lauren and Darik requested a wedding with  **SPANISH** Flavor – and I HAPPILY obliged! WHAT FUN! They wanted to introduce their favorite of travels. Again, WHAT FUN! Almost instantly during our initial conversations, I reflected back to a painting that I had seen in my pre-teen years. It was of a SPANISH DIVA dressed in red and black lace. The background of the painting was a black wrought iron trellis almost covered with GIANT open, deep velvety red roses! And it was from that ‘stored, gray matter warehouse inventory’ that I built her décor upon after much research too, of course!

This wedding is called FRESCO [fresh] and FANTASTICO [fantastic]

091003 Eaton.Wedding_0033The Bridal Party and Body Flowers

The Bride ~
Savvy Spanish – Deep and Dramatic! Closely duplicating a picture provided by Sally Lauren, of a bouquet she found at a Seattle Bridal Show, we created a centered mass of fresh flowers surrounded by a collar of ivory Ostrich feathers! Her bouquet was made primarily of all reds, different shades, hues and textures! The bouquet was a modern, tight trendy mass of red Celosia, red Intuition roses, red Warthal Protea, orange Coffee Berry, burgundy Dahlias, chocolate Cosmos, and reddish brown Kangaroo Paw. The stems will be secured with an ivory satin ribbon banding.

The 3 Bridesmaids ~
These ladies got the orange Pin Cushion Protea that Sally Lauren liked. I felt the color contrast would work best here against their espresso colored dresses and the more powerful, impressive flowers would be reserved for the bride!

These bouquets were comprised of orange Pin Cushion Protea, Leontis roses, chocolate Cosmos, red mini Tea Cup roses and burgundy Dahlias. Looking for a twist on bouquet construction, and knowing Sally Lauren’s fondness of great paper – these flowers were nestled down in paper cones!!!  The cone concept is a modern one, but rarely used for bouquets. They are typically used on pews or chair markers, but certainly was a GREAT switch up!

The Groom ~
Darik wore a red Intuition rose surrounded by chocolate Cosmos.

These gentlemen wore Leonitis roses surrounded by orange Coffee Berry

The Flower LADY ~

I ADORE this – and why not have an adult friend serve this role – it doesn’t always have to be children!
A friend of Sally Lauren’s dropped rose petals and handed off long stemmed, Black Bacara roses to the mothers!

The Ring LADY ~
I ADORE this too – again, why not!?!
This adult lady friend carried a silver tray down the aisle! On the tray, were 2 red Intuition roses, leaving the stems long, with a ring on each rose stem.

The Ceremony

091003 Eaton.Wedding_0020The Aisle ~
At Sally Lauren’s request, the chair ends along the aisle were marked with 6” red rice paper lanterns, suspended by chocolate brown satin ribbon. We added a hint of Spanish by labeling the family’s lanterns with  ‘reservado’ and fresh flowers!

The Exchange of Vows Area ~
For the lawn, we created a transparent backdrop. Transparent in that the guests could still observe the great view through open units. While still giving the couple a framing for photographs, during the exchange of vows!

Three, black wrought iron, scroll stands were securely planted in the ground and were decorated by adding single red rose heads to the scroll work!  OH, SUCH A SPANISH FLAVOR WITH 100 BEAUTIFUL RICH, VELVETY OPEN RED ROSES!

The exchange of vows area was finished off with a red rose petal carpet, dotted with a few terra cotta colored petals, formed on the lawn in semi circle or arc shape!  The arc of rose petal also had a ground level of red votive candles. This clean line of red votives on the ground mirrored the shape of the stands and created a more prominent base for the bride and groom to stand in during this very important moment!

The Cake ~
A small toss bouquet was made for the cake topper, a miniature version of the bride’s bouquet!

CHATTER & COMMENTS:

The weather, let’s talk about that for a hot sec! IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY BETTER! The day was PERFECT! Considering the forecast all week was for rain and considering it was an outdoor wedding! My favorite phrase of the day was weather related and it came from S.S.S.! I called Sally Lauren the morning of the wedding and she exclaimed ‘RAY BAN ALERT’ – LOL!

SALLY LAUREN WAS A DELIGHT TO WORK WITH AND I ADMIRED HER TASTE TREMENDOUSLY – SHE IS AN INTERIOR DESIGNER! She totally annihilated any preconceived notions of creative people working together – Thank you Sally Lauren J

Hey there West Coast S.S.S. – drop me a line from time to time!

Godspeed and Carpe Diem!

The classic appeal with slight juxtaposes!
Casey’s palette was very neutral, tans, greens, browns, and yellows. She had very good taste in her flower selection – ORCHIDS! Yummy!

The Bridal Party and Body Flowers

IMG_4105The Bride ~
Casey appeared with a hand tied bouquet of primarily all green orchids! This petite clutch was comprised of varied sizes of Cymbidium orchids, mixed with green Dendrobium orchid florets, and accented with different varieties of green berries, adding texture and hues to the monochromatic palette. The stems were secured with a
coordinating bridal satin ribbon.

The 5 Honorary Bridesmaids ~
Casey’s accompanying friends carried faux crystal holders with a covering of fresh Sphagnum moss. Almost embedded in the moss, were mini green Dendrobium orchid florets nestled in green berries, with hints of white Freesia and petite white roses.

CHATTER & COMMENTS:
IMG_4088OH MY -  WHAT SWEET PEOPLE! THE WHOLE ENTIRE FAMILY! THEY WERE JUST WARM, LOVING AND ALL AROUND FINE PEOPLE!
This family met their challenges along the road of wedding planning, from travel to personal loss. It is hard to say whether these difficulties can make already fine people even MORE fine! But they emerged with great attitudes and fun was to be had by all! Thank you LORD for your blessings upon them!
They saved the rainwater of the day! I had never heard of that – but oh, how I love it! It was a day of  *TORRENTIAL*  rain/s! They collected the rainwater in a bucket, then froze it! HOW COOL IS THAT?!? They are saving it for, if and when Casey and Jay have children, the water can be used at the baby’s christening! I mean really….HOW COOL IS THAT!
In case I didn’t describe this family well enough – THEY ARE A VERY, VERY FINE FAMILY!
Godspeed and Carpe Diem to Casey, Jay, Teresa and Ray ?

Garrett & Ben

ceremony decor

GARRETT & BEN
9.19.09

Venue – THE KYLE HOUSE, FINCASTLE, VA.
Photographer – MICHAEL SINK
Lighting – NEAL NANCE

Let’s start this story with my first impression of Garrett, the bride. TOTALLY EXCITED!  You could feel her enthusiasm in every single one of her emails, she couldn’t wait to marry Ben!  And the day she married Ben, was an AWESOME day for her, him, them and us!
Fabulous weather, fabulous venue, fabulous food, fabulous photographer, fabulous bridal party and of course……should I say it….. of course I am going to say it: FABULOUS FLOWERS! Does this sound like a great story or what -  It is and it was!
Garrett [doncha just LOVE that name – I sure do ?] chose a SHAB – SOPHISTICATE look. This style has certainly been a trend this year at CORSAIR Floral & Décor. We have welcomed the challenge of customizing each one, making each brides wedding different within their personal taste.
Here is a written review of the day, not as visual as Michael can make it with his photos, and we look forward to that!

IMG_4011The Bride ~
Garrett carried a simple, elegant hand tied bouquet comprised of peach
and creamy white miniature Calla lilies! These ultra rich flowers were
complimented by white Arabica blooms, Rusty Freesia, and the finishing touch was antique green Hydrangea, with green, peach and brown berries, showing up nicely  against the off white wedding gown! The stems were secured with a surprise finishing touch for Garrett – Garden Twine with Sequins – OH YEAH – IT ROCKED!

The Bride’s Hair Flower ~
A single small cream Calla lily

The Toss Bouquet~
A simple miniature version of the bride’s bouquet

The 5 Bridesmaids ~
The Maid of Honor’s bouquet varied slightly to align with the differentiation of apparel. The MOH bouquet be made of white hydrangea, green berries and peach Calla lilies to coordinate with her green dress.
The bridesmaids carried the antique green Hydrangea, peach Calla  lilies
accented with peach berries to match their gun metal colored dresses [THESE WERE WONDERFUL DRESSES – LOVED THE COLOR!]
All these small bouquets were fashionable hand tied designs.

The Groom ~
Ben was the only gentleman of the evening to have his lapel adorned
with a single white Calla lily surrounded by berries of green peach and brown!

The 5 Groomsmen ~
These gentlemen sported peach Calla lilies, with no berries or foliages
allowing the simple elegance of this blossom to shine through.

The 3 Fathers ~
Fresh Cream colored Lisianthus  bouts

The 2 Mothers ~
They each carried by request single stems of fresh Calla Lilies with ribbon wrap

The 4 Friend Helpers ~
NOT MANY BRIDES SURVIVE THIS DAY WITHOUT THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE TO LEND HELPING HANDS!
Corsages for each.

THE CEREMONY

IMG_4004Greeting The Guests ~
Accenting the fabulous black wrought iron pieces flanking either side of the entry doors, We did traditional and lush floral garlands!
Two THICK foliage garlands, of Ivy, Magnolia, Lemon Leaf, and Plumosis were filled with fresh flowers!  The wonderful Antique green Hydrangea, Calla lilies, Berries, Roses, Freesia and Dahlias were inserted into the garlands for the perfect match on the clapboard exterior – that old ‘bountiful’ appeal!

The Chairs ~
Sheppard’s hooks were placed along the aisle at every other row. Now, how did you do that, you might ask?  Thank Jim Schaal for allowing holes to be drilled in his antique floor – BTW, he drilled the holes! Hanging conical glass vases were chocked full of berries and rosettes and suspended from the hooks.

The Front of the Barn – The Arch – The Exchange of Vows Area ~
If you are familiar with the ceremony barn at the Kyle House, then you know the walls have a great burlap drape. We chose to drape the front wall with a layer of cream panels in front of the burlap, so that we could pull it back into swags and add fresh flowers with lighting.
The arch was decorated with fresh flowers of oranges and whites.

CHATTER & COMMENTS:
There was a “”fabulous”” amount of traffic that day too in Fincastle – as it was The Annual Old Fincastle Days!
MANY THANKS TO CAROL BRENNER, executive director of Historic Fincastle, Inc. & Chair, Heritage Days ’09, for her personal cell number as well as her personal escort through the visitors and streets! Couldn’t have done it without you ?

Time did not allow us to plenty of photo ops – see why I rely so much on photographers – PLUS their pix are NINETY MILLION TIMES BTTER THAN MINE!

Favorite phrase of the day from Garrett – “IT WAS MORE THAN I EVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE” – and that is why I love my job!

Miss you Garrett
GODSPEED and CARPE DIEM ALWAYS!

The Ceremony -

IMG_3974The Arch and The Aisle
The most simplistic flower treatment! Remaining in a natural state, and a strong visual against the willow tree for optimum view of the surroundings. Monofilament pre-strung fresh flowers, of the wedding palette were suspended from the arch top. Cascading just enough to provide a colorful topped frame, but not obtrusive or distracting to guests or the bridal party. Continuing the same theme as the arch, small clusters of coordinating fresh flowers were planted in the ground at the  base of the family’s chair legs.

The Reception -
The Guests Tables
Kim provided us a picture that she wanted the table arrangements fashioned after! Clear vases with a combination of summer blossoms in tight masses.

IMG_3935The Bistro Tables
Smaller arrangements mirroring the guest table arrangements

The Food Stations
Food tables  got a lovely display! Very tall fresh florals of all the HOT colors and fabulous flower varieties  centered on these tables. Twigs and branches, conducive to the Sundara rural setting, were added with garden twine enhancements

The Lounge Area
The big tree! This 300 year old beauty served as shelter for the guests and the bar area. Hanging linen and canvas  fabric panels were hung in a scalloped draping. Under the panels we suspended pink and orange paper lanterns, at various heights.

CHATTER & COMMENTS:

IMG_3950I have to tell you about the first email that I got from Kim! It still makes me smile today!

She emailed me a year ago, asking about her wedding date and if I had if available. At that point, I had another ‘pending’ wedding, and I responded nicely with “I may be booked”. She emailed me back and said…”but I am going to have the COOLEST wedding ever!  You will want to do my wedding!” As it turned out the other wedding moved the date. I emailed Kim and told her of my opening. We booked each other – and have exchanged emails ever since. We had limited meetings due to her living in SC, so as often times is the case, email became our life line.

Kim [and Kerry too], but especially Kim……SO SORRY FOR THE RAIN! But I heard you all had a wonderful time regardless of the weather! Ya know, that’s how it should be……outdoor weddings are always a risk. But if you don’t let the weather bother you and enjoy the moment for what it is…..ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT DAYS OF YOUR LIFE….then who cares about the weather?!  Gives you great stories to tell, LOL!  Kim, I want you to know that during set up on Saturday, I spent quite a bit of time around your dad – WHAT A HOOT THIS GENTLEMAN IS! LOL! He kept me in stitches! Thank you Kim for the opportunity to be a part of your event.

GODSPEED & CARPE DIEM TO KIM, WILL, and THEIR FAMILIES!
